Money Management

To be a successful trader, you must know how to pick the right strategy, tradable and position, and be able to manage risk once you establish your position.

There is no Holy Grail in trading. However, a sound trading strategy will generate profits if applied properly and in a timely fashion. The key is to survive if your trading comes off the rails.

Trade to cut losses and let profits run. Don’t target a particular price as that will encourage you to abandon a profitable position, which contravenes the notion of letting your profits run. Don’t average down as that will empower a losing position, which flies in the face of cutting losses.

Even before you put your position on, have an exit strategy and awareness of how much risk you are prepared to accept emotionally and in actual practice.

You need currency trading strategies (a.k.a. forex trading strategies).

Embrace the need to protect your money so that you will live to see another trading day and stay in the game. The next most important consideration, next to having a proven system to trade with, is to recognize the importance of stops (that you don’t move when price goes against you). Oh sure, you will get stopped out from time to time, as we all do, but just treat those occasions as ‘bad inventory’ and yell, “Next!” At least you will have money in your account to carry on.
